The Place of Sand, Sun and Turtles!

There are so many things to do in and around Akumal and the Riviera Maya that it is almost overwhelming. You can rest assured that out staff will be able to provide you with ideas and assistance in planning your stay with us.

Half Moon Bay is great for snorkeling and sunbathing. The bay is home year round to green and logger head turtles. May through September are the prime nesting months and the bay has more turtles this time of year. There is a dive and fishing shop on Half Moon Bay that can take you to all the most popular dive spots. Akumal was actually known first for its fantastic diving before all the condos, hotels and other services were developed. Yalku lagoon is just a short 10 minute walk and a very interesting place to visit. The underground rivers flow into the lagoon and mixes with the saltwater. Equipment is available to rent and there is a small charge to enter. The grounds are immaculate and bronze statues literally surround you as you make your way to the waters edge.

Just a fifteen minute walk to the village of Akumal and Akumal bay. There are many restaurants in the village including Turtle Bay Bakery for breakfast, lunch and dinner, La Cueva Pescadore for lunch and dinner specializing in fine local caught fish. The Lol ha beach bar and restaurant is on Akumal bay with delightful views of the fishing boats, snorkelers and the waves breaking on the reef. Lucy's homemade ice cream is a favorite and The Loncheria counter is a great place for a quick lunch or dinner of traditional foods.

Akumal Shopping, there are many galleries, boutiques, and gift shops in the village, which will entice you with all their original works of art and the latest in fashion.

Akumal Bay is a great place to relax, swim, snorkel and people watch. You can also arrange a scuba dive and  Fishing trips right on the beach. Make no mistake these are all professional dive masters and fishing guides. April through June is the best time for fishing the waters off Akumal. Many marlin, sailfish, dorado and other game fish our caught. Year round the fishing can be good and even the barracuda can be a tasty delight prepared by one of the local chefs. Most of the restaurants will prepare your catch for you for a nominal charge.

Golf, there many fine golf courses within easy distance to Akumal. The PGA has an annual tournament just up the road at Mayakoba. Playacar is just before Playa Del Carmen and the Bahia Principe course is only five minutes to the south.
